Went to eat at a little mom and pop's at a strip mall tonight and, silly me, I expected some traditional vietnamese items on the menu. I ordered a "number 77" and I'm feeling like it was just chinese food in disguise.
What should I be looking for in a traditional Vietnamese menu??

I ordered the curry shrimp "vietnamese style." Seems like the restaurant we went to wasn't the right one - but we just decided to 'go for it' without much research.

Bun is just vietnamese rice noodles, basically vermicelli. You get a big bowl of noodles with various vegetables and whatever meat you want, grilled pork being the standard. Add in fish sauce, hoisin, sriracha and you've got yourself a perfect meal.

Ah, ok. I think I know what to be looking for on menus now. The restaurant we went to had a lot of chinese on it. It had bun, but that was it and I didn't know what the heck bun was at the time.
Thanks guys!

Hmmm. Bahn Mi huh? okie. That mom and pops I complained about in the OP? It delivers and does have 'bun' on the menu. I've grown very fond of the combination bun. OMG I love living within delivery range.
