In addition, as part of their year-long celebration, Pearl Jam is releasing a Pearl Jam Twenty book on September 13, 2011. Published by Simon & Schuster in the U.S. and in Canada, and Atlantic Books in the UK, Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa, the Pearl Jam Twenty book is an aesthetically stunning chronicle of the band’s past two decades. Compiled and written by veteran music writer Jonathan Cohen with Mark Wilkerson, the book includes a foreword by Cameron Crowe (and material from all his own band interviews) as well as original interviews with Bruce Springsteen, Neil Young, and Dave Grohl. The book is also available for pre-order now at http://www.PJ20.com.

Isn't it more common for Amazon items to go down in price as the release date approaches? Most of the time I pre-order stuff way in advance and then get notified of some kind of rebate.

Pearl Jam Reveals WI Labor Day Fest, Canadian Tour, Film, Book
Pearl Jam has finally confirmed the details for its own festival, as well as a film, tour and book in celebration of the 20th anniversary of its debut album, "Ten."

Anchored by the only U.S. performances by Pearl Jam this year, the festival will be held Labor Day weekend (Sept. 3-4) at Alpine Valley Music Theatre in East Troy, Wis., outside Milwaukee. Among the other bands set to appear are the Strokes, Queens of the Stone Age, Mudhoney, X's John Doe, Joseph Arthur, Glen Hansard (the Swell Season/the Frames) and Liam Finn, with more to be announced.

Festival tickets go on sale next Monday (May 23) for members of Pearl Jam's Ten Club fan organization, and June 4 for the general public.

Following the festival, Pearl Jam will play 10 shows in Canada, beginning May 7 in Montreal. Ten Club members will get first crack at tickets for those appearances on May 24. Public onsales for the Canadian dates are on May 27 and 28. Two dollars from every ticket sold to the festival and Canadian shows will benefit the Vitalogy Foundation, which aids non-profit organizations chosen by band members.

Also on tap as part of Pearl Jam's anniversary celebration is a highly anticipated documentary, "Pearl Jam Twenty," directed by longtime band friend Cameron Crowe ("Singles," "Almost Famous") and created from over 1200 hours of rare, vintage footage along with new interviews and live material. In addition, Crowe has selected the track list for an accompanying soundtrack, which will be released on a date to be announced by Columbia Records.

Lastly, Crowe has written the forward to a book, also titled "Pearl Jam Twenty," to be released this fall by Simon & Schuster in North America and Atlantic Books in the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa. The volume was written by former Billboard journalist/current "Late Night With Jimmy Fallon" music booker Jonathan Cohen with Mark Wilkerson, who previously wrote "Who Are You: The Life of Pete Townshend."

Amid all this activity, Pearl Jam is in the "embryonic" stages of writing material for its tenth studio album, according to a recent interview with frontman Eddie Vedder in the Chicago Tribune. As previously reported, Vedder is also about to release his second solo album, "Ukulele Songs" on May 31, in addition to a live CD/DVD, "Water on the Road." He will begin a solo tour on June 15 in Providence, R.I.

Published in celebration of Pearl Jam’s twentieth anniversary and in conjunction with Cameron Crowe’s definitive documentary film and soundtrack of the same name, PEARL JAM TWENTY is an aesthetically stunning and definitive chronicle of their two decades as a band—by the band itself.
In 1991, Pearl Jam’s debut album, Ten catapulted the little-known Seattle-based band into superstardom. Then, at the height of their popularity, the band shunned the spotlight, refusing to shoot videos or do interviews. Even as Pearl Jam’s studio albums continued to be critically acclaimed and commercially successful, selling over 60 million albums worldwide, the inner workings of the band—their day-to-day routines, influences, and motivations—remained unknown even to their diehard fans.

Twenty years later, this is their story. PEARL JAM TWENTY is a treasure trove of behind-the-scenes anecdotes, rare archival memorabilia, and the band’s personal photos, tour notes, and drawings. Told with wit and insight in the band members’ own words, and assembled by veteran music writer Jonathan Cohen with Mark Wilkerson—and including a foreword by Cameron Crowe along with original interviews with legends and contemporaries like Bruce Springsteen, Neil Young, and Dave Grohl—this intimate work provides an in-depth look at a group of musicians who through defying convention established themselves as “the greatest American rock band ever” (USA Today Readers’ Poll 2005).

2011 will be a yearlong celebration of Pearl Jam's rich twenty-year history. The festivities kick off with the January release of a new live compilation album, Live on Ten Legs, followed by the srping rerelease of the band's sophomore and junior releases, Vs. and Vitalogy, in new, deluxe formats. Cameron Crowe's film Pearl Jam Twenty will premiere at the end of summer into early fall at select film ?? worldwide and the Pearl Jam Twenty book and soundtrack will be released simultaneously. The film will then have a staged rollout including theatrical release, TV broadcast, and DVD release for the holidays. Pearl Jam's twentieth anniversary year will ?? be filled with a wealth of other surprises from the band, live performances and more.

that sorta reads like they just opened Kelly curtis' band diary and worked from there, where certain members were on certain dates. maybe my hopes for the book are a little too high.

Man, did you see the other sections? The whole thing won't read like that, and if it did it wouldn't be too bad. The purists and completists would be bitching if the attention to detail wasn't that high and thorough. What more did you want?
