I need some help setting up from scratch for DVD burning. I currently have no burner or dvd player on my desktop.

1) Do i need to get both and can i get them together externally?

2) Should i just buy a new computer?

Thanks

I recently got a new computer (running vista) and it came with Roxio Creator DE which can automatically burn FLAC to audio CD like Nero. So I set Roxio to burn the FLAC's DAO and it decodes to WAV fine, but when I listen to the CD about half the tracks have gaps between them. Has anyone had this experience with Roxio or know how to fix it so there are no gaps?

My second option if I can't get Roxio fixed is to use EAC to burn my bootlegs. I know if you're ripping CD's with EAC you have to change a lot of the settings. But if you just want to burn audio files on computer to CD are there any settings you need to change.

Thanks for any help. :)

EAC never worked for me for burning CDs- i dunno why but I would highly recommend burning anything lossless besides shn through JetAudio - thats my favourite free player/converter/burner/awesome program .. just try!

I've been using jetAudio for the last couple of days and its a great program. I've been burning a few audio cd's from FLAC and they have all worked without the gaps. Thanks heaps for the suggestion valmon, I'll be using it from now on. :)

If anyone knows the answer to the original question though, let me know for future reference.
Thanks.

I've used Audiograbber for ages and it's served me very well, but that's only for ripping CD's to wav or mp3.

And it has a very cool 'grabbing fist' logo...

I'm really needing some help. I'm not very computer savvy, but I can get around one somewhat. How can I convert .shn files to .wav files? I've gone to the etree website and downloaded the program and followed the directions until I get to the DOS stuff. I can't figure out how to get to the directory where my shn files are. Is there any other way to convert these? I've been trying to convert these files for 3 years now, and still can't figure out how to do it. Can anyone help me?

This is the software I use. There is a nice guide showing you how to use it.

are there any real differences between DVD+R and DVD-R.

wikipedia doesnt list anything other than - has a slightly better storage capacity and that you have to be careful because not all dvd players support both formats. other than that they don't really list anything but i'm sure something else has to be different

I use them pretty much interchangeably. My DVD players work with both just fine. If you are trading, the other person should tell you if he has a preference.

Fixed.
