I just got a copy of the complete Australian promo of Melbourne '98 (thanks Mike!) and I noticed that it is completely different than the SV set that is supposedly made from it. In fact if you look at the spectrals, you can see that the SV set is taken from a radio broadcast, depsite being labelled as the "Australian promo". So this set has been improperly labelled all these years. Just a heads up. Has anyone else noticed this?

The one on the SV set is taken from the Australian promo and the radio broadcast. The Promo is incomplete.

The tracks I compared were *all* from the broadcast. The description says that only the first minute is from the broadcast, and the rest is from the promo. This is absolutely incorrect.

Yup. I put the promo up on Zomb if you're interested.

I don't see how it's neccessary. The *authentic* promo and "Give Way" sound the same to me. The FM broadcast has louder crowd noise. Could it have been confused with the promo somewhere along the line? As I've said, the SV people seem to have them confused at least.

Thanks so much for this, J!
I've been maintaining for years that there's something very fishy with that supposed "promo CD" source, I can't wait to check this out.
Coming from a background in Nirvana trading, I've long bemoaned the disorganised state of Pearl Jam boots, this is a prime example. So many sources only available in EQ'd/matrixed versions with the original sources nowhere to be found - and you'll get shot down for being ungrateful or too pedantic for questioning the status quo.
Every source for every show should be numbered and archived, but it's concerning that some of those original tapes might not even exist anymore.

I'll be interested to hear this, I always thought the sv version sounded like fm or otherwise inferior. I'm glad theres still people that care about these things!

This is huge news, I've waited for this for a long time.

WOW. This sounds soooo much better, the crowd always sounded a little "digital" in all the prior sources, and I think I've listened to every mix that's out there looking for a perfect sounding one...never found it. But here everything is crystal clear...I've listened to this show a hundred times, but I'm hearing new small things all over the place.

Yeah, a big thanks once again to Cameronia and Mike.
This show's pretty meaningful to me as my first Pearl Jam show was the next show following this one (March 7th in Adelaide), it's wonderful to finally have a version as close to perfect as we'll ever hear.

Well, y'know - what I mean is that this was on the radio two nights before I saw the band for the first time so it was pretty fresh in my memory and it's also the only soundboard recording from that last tour with Jack.

I grew up listening to the FM source (since I was like 9 years old) and I had this on cassette taped off the radio myself. Then, I'd say 5 years or so ago I downloaded it, which was again the FM source. I just had a bit of a listen to this one and daym it sounds good, but I'm not sure I want to ruin my memory of the bootleg, or the nostalgic factor this show has for me, by listening to another (albeit a better) source. It's not really the same and it kinda scared me for a second there.
Like, every crowd noise, every little thing is deeply embedded in my brain from the FM source
If that makes sense.. or do I just sound like some kind of krazy nut that spells his krazy's with a k?
