Post subject:  B+P & Trading Help Guidelines

Got questions & comments about b+p'ing & trading? Then let's begin.

Next 2 paragraph's taken right straight from http://www.mcnichol.com/bnp/

What is a B&P?

B&P basically stands for Blanks and Postage. This arrangement allows a new trader who has a small or non-existent collection to acquire shows. In return for sending blank discs with return postage, you can end up with excellent shows on CD. The person distributing the music only gets the satisfaction of spreading some incredible music and joy, and assisting someone else in sharing something they love.

How Does It Work?

An individual who has a show to offer will post an announcement, usually to an internet newsgroup. You apply and are selected. Or you could post an appeal and garner a response. You are then given instructions, and an address. You send off the required number of blank CD-R discs, along with a return mailer with sufficient postage. The trader takes your blank discs and records the concert onto those discs, and then mails them back to you. The trader receives nothing in return for this service.

-----

For example, D's b+p setup. You might of seen this before here.

**** Please read the rules very carefully ****

http://www.mcnichol.com/bnp/ for rules on B+P's. Check out the pictures.

- I can not, will not accept return US stamps for postage (or any other international stamps) please. I can not use them.
- Either you find Canadian stamps (the right amount to send back to you) or you must send US/Canadian money for postage.
- I can burn dvd+r & dvd-r. 8x + perfered.
- Verbatim, TDK, Sony, FujiFilm, TY's are accepted. If you're sending something else, please pm me.
- NO Memorex, Princo, Imation, MMore, EMTec, Intenso or other 'no name' discs are not accepted. It's cause they're cheap & they don't pass verification too well.
- Do not include jewel cases (just have them in CD sleeves).
- You always need to send a padded envelope (already addressed to yourself) to send the discs back to you.
- Include a note inside which shows you would like burned, user name and email address.

An easy b+p instruction offer. Plain & simple to the point.

----

When getting onboard a b+p, alway's remember to keep all pm's, email's, addresses etc.. from the b+p offerer saved for future references.

Any problem's you are having or need some help on a certain b+p .. let us know. We will be more then happy to help you out. :)

Also you can have your priority mail supplies delivered to your door for free. It is all free, except the postage. boxes, envelopes, labels, stickers… unless you order them with postage already attached.
Check it out here: http://tinyurl.com/5gnp
you can also send priority to most countries in a flat rate envelope. For a list of countries and rate go here: http://www.usps.com/global/globalprioritymail.htm
I’ve fit a dozen discs in the small envelope before. They don’t allow you to use tape on the envelope, so I use a little glue under the seams before stuffing it =) the Small Envelope ships for $4.25 to Canada, $5.25 to everywhere else (not all countries have this option-check the above link). ALL international packages over 1 OZ need customs forms

Up to 2 oz. Canada $0.90

<1 oz $.63
<2 oz $.90
<3 oz $1.15
<4 oz $1.40
<5 oz $1.70
<6 oz $1.95
<7 oz $.2.20
<8 oz $2.50
<12 oz $3.25

Good stuff here.

one thing I learned with all the B&Ps/trades I did through the years is: use tape on the envelopes! I got so many opened envelopes in the last trades / b&ps..

Just don't use pirate tape unless you want your post office to hate you, too.

I still use it on ones I can just drop in the box.

I guess the obvious needs stated.
Stamps go on the top right corner, arranged somewhat neatly, close together and rights side up.

I've recently had a few packages with stamps scattered across the whole envelope and upside down.

I think upside down is ok, but yeah they do have guidelines on placement.

Can someone explain to me how you do for cross-border B&P?

Can't possibly get stamps from another country so:
how do you know how much money you have to send? there's many options anyway (Airmail, Surface Mail...)
Do you put coins in the envelope (since many currencies don't have anything less than around $7-10 in notes)?
how do you get said coins since exchange places normally only give you notes, never coins?

I have done dozens and dozens of these, ask the person you are doing the b/p for how much to send, you can check the exchange rate to see if its reasonable, when in doubt put and extra dollar/euro/ etc in. The cost to send back should pretty well be the same to send it obviously.

DO NOT send surface mail, it will take months to get there, airmail is a little more expensive but not a massive difference say about %30 more usually (in my country at least) Most countries have 5 in notes from my experience :?

If use coins tape them to a dvd cover (not on the dvd :shake: ) Remember coins weigh a bit so that will increase your postage cost to get it there. A good way to get different money is to b/p your self when you can. I have about $130 usa cash and 10 euros that I can in turn use for return postage

:? mmm, all B&P I've seen here specifically ask for their local currency.. that's not much a problem for Euros for me (as I go there often to the family), but it is for US$, Can$ or Aus$.

far too much hassle if you want my opinion...(though you probably don't) Torrents are far easier (and cheaper, faster, less time consuming, less risky and more environmentally friendly..)

Don't think I'll bother..might try trading as it's a bit more straightforward.. but frankly, it's the 21st century..

thanks for the answers anyway Clint
