I know, it's not the right forum, but you guys are the best.
I'm trying to use Foobar to manage all my music files. Someone recommended a way to change tags with the bootleg txt files (thanks by the way) and I added the drive letter with all my music on there. What I got was one big mess. It had thousands of files untitled. The only way around it was to add each directory into the libary and then tag the files in that directory if needed. Seems very time consuming. Am I doing something wrong?
I'm sure Foobar's tagger isn't bad, but I'm not sure if it can handle batch tagging. I've always used a program called Mp3Tag (LINK) for doing a large amount of tags at once. It's about as flexible as you can get, and it will handle as many files as you can throw at it. What I find most useful is the ability to parse data with it. It can use the directory structure and file name to generate tags, or it can use tag info to rename your music files.
The only real learning curve is understanding the logic behind the parser and learning how to build your tag statements, but both are fairly simple, the software is fairly intuitive and the documentation is very nice.
Best of all, it's free.
It's definitely worth a try. I'm not an expert with it, but I've gotten good enough at it for what I need it to do, so if you get started and need some help, just drop me a PM.
The Foobar option is good, but yes you have to load each folder. You can load each folder, then select the files with the select/shift/select method and then tag those files using the correct TXT file provided the TXT file is in the correct etree format. You can tag your MP3s or FLACs this way. For MP3s, I use MP3Tag to clean up what Foobar doesn't do when I convert from FLAC to MP3. Work flow - Tag FLAC files with Live Show Tagger > convert to MP3 > correct MP3 tags en masse or individually as needed with MP3Tagger. Here is the link to the plugin for Live Show Tagger for Foobar ifyou don't already have it.

Arrggg! One issue I can across very early on, it does not support SHN. I guess because SHN does not support tagging. How did you guys get around this for the early on shows? Convert to FLAC?

i use TLH (http://tlh.easytree.org/), to convert from SHN TO FLAC (level8). just drag to drop and choose option to convert format. TLH is great tool for many differnt things, play around with it.. very cool utility.

No, no SHN support. I just threw away all my archive discs that use SHN. If a show is worthing listening to, it's in FLAC.
Just kidding. I just throw them on my iRiver wtih Rockbox and listen to them without tags. I usually know what the song is when I listen to it so seeing the track title on the screen isn't all that important.
@ emanon
I am not sure I understand that comment.....is that a dig or a compliment?
