Back in December, I started a thread on the Pit with this same title. It died a quick death since 90% of the people over there consider the Dissident singles their favorite "bootleg." Today, someone started the same thread again, and it is getting no attention again.
If you dont know what I'm talking about:
02/19/92 - Albani Bar of Music: Winterthur, Switzerland (acoustic) notes: Finding themselves in a venue with an extremely tiny stage, PJ elects to rent acoustic guitars and Dave sets up a kick drum and bongo, going for an acoustic show. The latter part of the set becomes a jam session. Even in this small space, Ed climbs to the second floor, goes over all of the spectators’ heads and falls into the crowd on the main floor.
A while back, this show was mentioned in an interview by Brett Eliason, in discussing The Vault and the possibility of releasing shows from it. I have considered this to be the holy grail of PJ tapes. The Ten re-release would have been a perfect opportunity to release this show.
Today, I wondered whether we could do something better than starting a thread that will die amongst the hysteria over posters and socks that goes on over there. I wonder if we collected $5 from those who wanted to see this show released, and collect their names on a petition as well, and send it to the band, if we could make something like this happen.
What are your thoughts? Is it a stupid idea that will never gain enough interest, or is it something possible?

What's the money for? To show that we're serious? I think they know that most of the people who are still with them as fans would like just about anything that they could get from them, especially something of decent quality from the early days that would still seem new.
I think the petition idea is fine, they will see it posted here, but I don't see the need to collect money. I doubt that bribery would work anyway, they don't need our money.

unfortunately, in the internet age, I just dont think a list of names carries much weight, do you? names can be made up and people can put their names on a list but then not follow through (in this case, not actually buy the release).

So? What are you saying? If they send $5 that means they promise to buy the release, if the band decides to put it out? Or they are buying their place on the list of names? Is it like a deposit on the purchase? Will the people on the list only have to pay the difference if they do put it out?
Say Pearl Jam decides to put it out based on the list of names, is it fair for the rest of the people in the world to then get the show for $5 less than the people on the list who would undoubtedly claim responsibility for the show getting out?
When you're a multi-millionaire, do you think $500 carries much weight?
I am just throwing those questions out there. I still don't understand what the money is for.

I didnt really think about the money that much because I'd be ready to fork over $50 for this show, so sending $5 in the hopes that it works doesnt seem like a big deal to me.
I was looking at it more like proof of validity for the petition, like these people have not only added their name to the list but have put forth money to back it up. If you followed the Smashing Pumpkins recently considering how to release their vault recordings, Billy talked about how it costs money to mix and master past recordings, especially older ones, to the point where they are suitable for release. they suggested setting up a fan club, which people sign up for and pay for, to get a subscription to the project and so the band knows if there is enough interest to sustain an ongoing project of releasing archived shows and recordings. interest died fast because people were not willing to pay $300 for a year where they didnt know what they would get in return.
this probably isnt feasible because, like BeeGirl, the money will be a red flag for a lot of people, and I dont think we would have the numbers to really open the bands eyes as to how big a deal the vault is.

I think a petition would be fine. At least here, you can see as each person adds their name, so it's not like someone is sitting in their house, writing lists of names and then sending that number x5 in money to make it seem like each person signed and paid $5 but they actually paid themselves.
I don't think the money is necessary to get the point across. They know that the vault is valuable, if they didn't think it was, they wouldn't go to such great lenghts to protect and preserve it.

I believe they started recording shows on their VS. 1993 tour, so there's probably no recording anywhere. Magnussen park seems to bethe only exception...

are you RD over there? that place is such a dump--just the reading the topic titles is enough to frustrate you. everytime I go there I end up regretting it, but waiting for the Philly 10/31 news and not wanting to miss a pre-sale has forced me to do it.
google 'Brett Eliason Ten Past Ten'. I think that was the name of the article.

Just wait a couple years when they do a Ten re-re-release. They'll need to add something new to the package.

Yah thats me, sadly I still go over there sometimes. When talking about shit like that its like going in circles... everyone wants the same god damn shows over and over again. If they would just take 2 mins out of their day to look around they can find most of the commonly available shows for free. I highly doubt and officially released 4/3/94 is gonna sound any different than what is out there right now.
