Who decides which things can or cannot be torrented and why? Fucking stupid rules if you ask me...

The person who tapes/authors it.

They're pretty much entitled to decide whatever they want about distributing it. You're entitled to not respect their wishes. They are then entitled to not tape (or at least distribute what they tape) in the future.

Basically boils down to respecting the wishes of the person doing the work, and not calling them fucking stupid.

I completely understand that. But I also don't understand a taper asking stuff not be circulated. I mean, if it's bad work and you don't want it out there it should have never seen the light of day and we shouldn't even know about it to care.

Well said, this is what I was thinking but not articulate enough to express.

No one called anyone fucking stupid though.

I will always respect wishes for sure, doesn't mean I really understand the reasoning. I've always thought of it as being "a little bit pregnant", once it's out there it's out, you know? It's only a matter of time.

On the flip side though, that's not such a bad thing in itself either. Kinda like a PJ drip-feed thing happenning so that every now and then you can get a nice surprise you didn't know about.

And I can def. get the 'no torrent' thing, at least for the first few months - nothing wrong with making people go old school. It always seems to ends up being worth the effort.

Now that sounds retarded, and dare I say, hipster-esque. Old school for the sake of it even though there's no apparent benefit what-so-ever.

I'm glad we're in agreement that Varis is fucking stupid.

HEY. This thread is full of lies.

1. Varis is super smart.
2. Tapers/authors/etc can say what they want, people will respect it or they won't. I always hope that things go the way everyone wants them to because I like people happy.
3. "Old-school for the sake of it" does not come with "no apparent benefit what-so-ever". Some of my most favorite people in real life came from the bonds made through trading old-school. It may not be something that benefits the sound of the music on the disc, but it makes listening/watching more enjoyable, and my life is definitely better as a direct result.

Good points, for the most part. I'll let the wrongness about Varis slide.

Well sure, back in the day when everything was done via snail mail bonds were definitely established and that can't be discounted. But it's not like that went away when everyone started sharing digitally. I mean, that sense of community was replaced with communities like this one right here.

No, I don't feel any bond with anyone when I upload a dvd or see that someone downloaded something that I uploaded. Nothing at all.

This community was built by humans acting like humans interacting with other humans. The majority of the people who are here are still trading that way, otherwise there is no need to be here. And I mean this trading forum, not RM as a whole.

did you just call him an ass a whole?

and the funny thing about all of this is - you know my feelings on human interaction.
