I was thinking about buying a new CD Player. I'm looking for a single disc player. I've narrowed down my search to the following 3 serious entry-level models.
Cambridge Audio Topaz CD10 Marantz CD5004 NAD C 515BEE
I always wanted the Marantz, but the more I research the more complaints I read regarding having to send the unit for maintenance, high lemon rate and manufacturing inconsistency. The NAD seems to have great reviews, but I am unfamilar to the brand. Cambridge seems to be new to the entry-level models, but is probably the model I am leaning towards right now.
Do any fellow RMers have any CD player recommendations? These models or any models?
Thanks!

Unfortunately, Sony doesn't make any 1-disc CD players. They do make a 1-disc SACD player, but it's about $400. I don't want a changer.
Sorry. Shows you how long it has been since I shopped for CD players.
Single disc players are rare. Given the amount of out-of-print CDs I own, I can't run the risk of the disc getting caught in a changer. That happened a few times with my old Sony 5 disc changer. Since that died a few years ago, I've been using an old DVD player as my CD player. Such a tough decision.

Well, I can't really explain it, but it has something to do with the "given the amount of out of print cds I own" part, it started to seem like it might be too much work. Although if the point is to keep the OOP discs pristine, this really would be the best choice. Or you could just rip them to your hard drive and use the lossless files for listening.

I'm glad I asked
thank you for introducing me to to the term lossless. I cannot lossless that word more.

I had a NAD amp for years and loved it, my Bro had a NAD pre-amp and power amp combo for ages and had no problems with it at all, though I have never had a NAD CD player. Their styling is unique, kinda straight-forward army style, some people may not like that.
I've always steered clear of Marantz gear, partly personal choice, partly because my knob-head brother-in-law had a Marantz system and I've always associated the brand with him. I've heard good stuff about Cambridge Audio, especially for old school stereo components. I'd certainly be looking at them if I was in the market for a stand-alone component today.
Good luck with it. I need to buy a new AV receiver and right now can't even get into the headspace to begin to research it.

I've been using the same model of Sony discman for years now and it's always been great. Time for yet another new one, I bring it home and it's a piece of shit. It's ultra-sensitive, freezes between songs...the quality went way downhill. It's possible I got a bad one, but I have a feeling that some corners have been cut.

I pulled the trigger last night. I went with the Cambridge Audio. Cambridge Audio had great reviews and excellent composition of components. Here's to hoping for 10 great years!
I decided against the Marantz because of their spotty manufacturing and dependability. I don't mind shelling out some dough, but I want it to work for 10ish years without worry. I don't feel the Marantz was the safest buy. I always wanted Marantz, but after research, I couldn't do it.
NAD was a very solid product. No issues with any reviews that I read - probably the best reviewed player of the three I listed. I noticed that the model I listed is sold out on several sites, so that model may be getting phased out in favor of a new model. Plus, I had $300 worth of Amazon gift cards and it wasn't available through Amazon.
Thanks everyone for your input!
