I have some mpeg-4 files I can't load onto a data disc or mp3 player. Can anybody assist me with converting them??? Thanks a bunch!

didn't want to start a new thread for this. I have an album I bought from iTunes years ago. I don't even have iTunes anymore, but I want to listen to the album. It is in m4p format, which I think is the DRM shit. Anyone know the best way to convert? I can't burn to a cd because I don't use iTunes. :/

Go back and buy the album in a lossless format from another vendor.

Converting lossy files usually involves re-encoding them. Not a good thing to do.

I once converted a lossless 5.1 DTS soundtrack to 448kbps stereo AAC. 448kbps is theorically lossy, but pratically lossless for stereo.

I just want to listen to the damn song and am pissed that these things were protected. Fuck iTunes.

Yeah, I hated how it updated so much and would only get more obnoxious with every update.

Personally, if I'd already payed for an album download once, I would feel totally justified in downloading it again elsewhere, for free, sans DRM.

And also...

I have a few store-bought compact discs with music on them that I would like to copy and send to several select RMers. I am told that I can convert them to a .wav file and burn them to blank discs, but I haven't tried that yet. Is that the best way?

That's correct. The audio has to be "ripped" (i.e., you can't simply copy and paste the tracks to your hard drive and then burn them). Are you copying entire CDs, or are you cherry picking tracks for compilations? If you're doing whole discs "as is", the process is even simpler.

P.S. I hope yours wasn't a sarcastic post. lol.

I am doing entire cds, yes. And no, that was not a sarcastic post.

I was going to recommend ImgBurn for ripping and burning complete discs if you're using Windows. Did you forge ahead?
