I could google this, but I want to pick RM's brain instead. What's the best, cheapest, and most user friendly way to record cell-phone conversations? To be clear, this is for professional reasons. When I interview people on the phone, I'm having a hard time transcribing the conversation on my laptop as it's happening while simultaneously paying attention to the conversation itself. The result, currently, is really shitty interviews.

I don't want to do anything that goes through my laptop because I have an unreliable internet connection at my apartment. I'd prefer to have an easy app on my phone that enables me to just click "record" and be done with it. Does this exist?

Recorder ($1) is a basic voice recorder, but it can also record your phone calls. If you need to record phone calls, then get this app. If you don't, get something else. It should also be noted that in order to record phone calls you need to buy credits. One hour will cost you $2 and eight hours will cost you $13. That's a little pricey for my taste, but I don't need to record my calls. If you do, it might be worth it.

It would probably be too much to ask regionally popular, small-label musicians to use that sort of technology, wouldn't it?

I don't think so, washing machine. It's a widely accepted and used technology.

Google Voice is an option. Domestic calls are free. You'll be assigned a number, then you'll have to have the interviewee call you. It can record incoming, but not outgoing calls.

Recorder is another option. But Apple makes you buy minutes.

Next time you upgrade, you may want to consider an Android phone. There are a bunch of free call-recording apps on Google Play.
