I'm trying to help my firend with hers. Her ipod dosent come up in iTunes. What can I do, I'm currently downloading an ipod update from software update, but im on dial up and this looks like it will take awhile. Any ideas on what I can do, so the pod shows up, thanks

Try resetting the iPod. Unplug it from the computer first. Depending on what generation it is, you either hold Menu or the center button and Play for a few seconds.

I had a similar problem with my girlfriend's iPod mini. When I plugged it in, the computer itself recognized the presence of the iPod, but the iTunes software never came up with the iPod connected. Here's how I fixed it:

Download the newest version of iTunes (or use an old installer if you wish) and when the InstallShield Wizard appears, it will ask you to repair or uninstall iTunes (previous version). Choose 'Repair' and let it do its thing and violá.
