Ok well I just moved and to cut down on cost right now I don't have the internet but my laptop is picking up an internet singal that is pretty poor only like 2.2-5.5 mbps. I know the person who has the wireless router can boost there singal but is there any way I can download a program or get something to enhance how my laptop picks up the singal?

I different wireless card may pick up the signal better. But that may or may not do the trick.

There are ways to repeat the signal, depending on your set up or how much you're willing to invest. Since you said you're trying to save some money... you could be adventureous and build a Pringles can antenna.

Not sure I totally understand this set up. If some could explain it simplier or has any other ideas please reply.

You could simply knock on your neighbor's door and ask them to move the wireless router closer to your apartment. :D

This thread came at a perfect time. My parents have the router on their computer, which is downstairs. Lately my internet has been cutting out on me constantly.

We are moving to a new house, which is only a 1-story, in a few months. Luckily the router will only be 2-3 rooms away. Would being closer to it help out with my connection, or should I try to boost the power (or whatever needs to be done)?

Thanks.

That is what we have, the D-Link. It worked fine when we first got it, but now it seems like about every 5-10 minutes I have to reconnect to the internet.

try updating the firmware. mine did the same thing, drove me nuts, but as soon as i updated the firmware (released in feb 05), it was back to being solid.

You could stop being a cheap ass and stop stealing your neighbor's internet. That would probably speed things up for you.
