FOR BROADBAND USERS ONLY!
Found this info on the net. I've made the changes to my Firefox, but I'm not sure if it really speeded it up (but on the other hand I connect from work and have one of the best connections you can have)
Quote:
Here's something for broadband people that will really speed Firefox up:
1.Type "about:config" into the address bar and hit return. Scroll down and look for the following entries:
Normally the browser will make one request to a web page at a time. When you enable pipelining it will make several at once, which really speeds up page loading.
2. Alter the entries as follows:
Set "network.http.pipelining" to "true"
Set "network.http.proxy.pipelining" to "true"
Set "network.http.pipelining.maxrequests" to some number like 30. This means it will make 30 requests at once.
3. Lastly right-click anywhere and select New-> Integer. Name it "nglayout.initialpaint.delay" and set its value to "0". This value is the amount of time the browser waits before it acts on information it receives.
If you're using a broadband connection you'll load pages MUCH faster now!

Interesting. For the most part I dont notice much difference. But on a few pages which for no apparent reason always loaded slowly, they now load real quick.
there's definitely a huge difference. i thought 30 was too much, it was on 4 before, so i made it 20 and everything loads very very fast now. wow it's like my internet is on extacy
thanks man

this might be a taboo but this is also possible for IE
It's somewhere deep down in the registry where you can set simultaneous TCP connections... i'll check were the changes are done from home later tonight

if you're not nerdy enough to freak around in some obscure config dialogue, you might try the tweak network settings extension, which changes these settings for you.
