My CD RW drive on my computer is officially dead.

It is an HP Pavilion A250Y that I bought in September of 03. Can you believe the drive crapped out already? It is a Sony cdrw and I searched for the model number and have found a lot of people have had problems with it.

My computer is still under warranty, but I'm thinking of replacing it with a drive that can burn cd's and dvds. Is that possible?

Anyway, I'm looking for suggestions. The computer is an HP Pavilion A250Y. I can get more specific if need be. Would suggest an internal or external drive.

The only things I do are:

Download Bit Torrents and make cd's out of WAV, FLAC, and SHN files
Make copies of cd's
Put pictures of my daughter on cd's

I'd like to start being able to copy dvd's also and possibly bit torrent dvd's and put them on to cd's.

Any suggestions for a burner that could do these things would be appreciated. Like I said, internal or external drives, which ever is better.

plextor has some high quality drives if you are a total audio freak.
but i would buy just a cheap one from ebay. all the things you mentioned can simply be done using software. so get yourself a cheap drive.
