i need one i think, i have 18 gig's on my lap top and and im down to 1 gig of space left, i have deleted and uninstalled everything i know i am able to get rid of, but im dowloading songs and am up to like 750 or so and im not gonna be able to download much more. so first, do i need an external hard drive, or is there other stuff i can get rid of to free up space?
and if i should get a hard drive, what brand and size should i get, and what kinda money am i looking at?
i just want to be able to keep my music on the computer so that i can continue to share it.

I admit I don't know much about laptops, so I don't know how difficult that is, but wouldn't it be better to replace your old internal hard drive with a new bigger one? Just a thought.

I would think so, since replacing a laptop hard drive requires more skill and knowledge than replacing a regular hard drive and hence should probably be done in a n authorized service point.
Then again, using a bigger new internal HD is a lot more convenient, I think, than carrying with you the extra HD.

i have some questions before i go to hook it up.
first is what is the best way to set it up? as far as like what should i leave on my computers internal hard drive and what should go to the external besides the mp3s?
and a question for what ender and i wish were talking about, do i have to keep it hooked up all the time? i have wireless internet and i like to move from the living room to the bedroom and so on, so will it hurt anyhting to only plug it in when i need it? and if i can only plug it in when from time to time then what can go on it that isnt used all the time.
anyway i cant think of more questions at the moment but basicly im just looking for ideas for when i hook it up tonight or tomorow, and just help ingeneral since most know that im not that computer literate

o yeah, one more thing, if im not able to unplug the external hard drive from time to time then what should i move off of the internal one, and would it get any faster by moving some stuff?

you can plug it in only when you need it. and you can connect/disconnect it while the computer is on. probably best to keep media files (music/videos) on it. you can put games and applications on there too, but nothing that runs all the time. e.g. don't install your antivirus software to it or try and move your windows folder

thanks alot, that was actually somehting i was wondering about, i thought it was going to be a pain in the ass if i had to shut down the computer to disconnect it, so im takeing it that i would be able to decide that i want to take the computer to the bed room and take the hard drive with me, so i would be able to just unpluf it from the wall and take it with me with out shuting down,

i just sent the my music file to the new E drive, but i was thinking it would actually move it there instead of copying it there, so i guess since the my music file is also still on my c drive then i need to go ahead and delete it?

yes.
when you drag-n-drop from one drive to another, the default action is to copy it. when you drag-n-drop to a different folder on the same drive, the default action is to move it.
