I dont like Opera because you either have to Pay for it, or you get served advertising in their free browesr. Additionally, it's not open source, which is a big plus in the FF community.

Even with the two google ads on top, opera still has the largest browsing area by far.
Open source is a good thing. But I don't see how a piece of software is the best piece of software in their respective category, just because it is open source. In order to be the best software, the software has to got some attractions that separates it from the rest. Opera has a lot of unique features (I can talk to Opera, for instance), whereas FF just has the open source argument.

Well, that's just how I feel about it.
I'll respect your opinion, but Firefox has 50 million+ opinions in its favor. When a product reaches this scale, it creates new industries and market support products. That's a pretty powerful thing for an open source product.

Can you make me a list of the unique features that Opera has, and FF does not. I'm interested in seeing that.
Me too. I love FF, but if there's something better I'll hop on it. I don't like the idea of paying for something AND getting ads. FF is free and prevents ads...

1. Opera may be faster (especially with forward/back browsing) but its default interface is terrible. Even with tweaking it, i'm not satisfied. And it's based on qt which is something I refuse to support.
2. Opera simply cannot render websites as well as firefox's gecko. This can't be disputed.
3. Opera does not support extensions, which the firefox community has embraced and created some really useful onces. While opera comes with many features by default, it has nowhere near as many features when you add in firefox's extensions. And I frankly won't use half of opera's features so I'd prefer a browser that comes with the minimum and allows me to add whatever I want.
4. Opera is closed-source and costs money to remove ads. In the past, opera only had one version, sans ads, that costs money. They now have two options available, one that allows you to not pay but have ads in the browser. I have no faith in them that they won't, at some point in the future, go back to the way things were.
5. It's impossible to say something like opera is older. Firefox is based on the old netscape when it was open-sourced. Interestingly enough, the new netscape that was released a few months ago is now based on firefox heh.
