i'm downloading the toledo show, from a link on the torrents page, it's at 7 hours right now. i'm new to bittorrenting, i've been reading help pages on it for about an hour and a half and still have no clue what's going on, and i was wondering if it should be going faster than it is. i think i opened my ports and all that stuff, but like i said, the help pages were confusing and not all that helpful, because anything past microsoft word and basic web browsing is above my computer knowledge. any info on the issue appreciated. danke.

Your speeds will depend on a lot of things - how many users are currently sharing, if they have their ports open, how fast your connection is, if you have your ports open, if you've saturated your upload speed, etc.

Assuming you're downloading a shn or flac show, seven hours might be reasonable. But typically, not always but typically, things speed up after you've been connected for a while.

If you're an impatient person, do your downloading at night so you can wake up to a finished download ;)

thanks for that. I've been looking at quite a few different sites from people's suggestions here at RM to learn more about Bit Torrent etc, and this one looks quite good!

that is the prime time to do them too. because you aren't using your computer. and you don't have to sit there and check it all the time. you can just sleep and wake up to a successful download.

On a side note...
We recently got a new register system at work (this really doesn't deserve it's own thread-or it's own post, for that matter-but here it is). It's known as Retailix. We've gone from DOS (yes, really) to a customized version of XP (yes, really). The good bit is that when you watch the training videos, they refer to the computers as "the POS." As in: "login to POS 1." "On the POS." Couldn't stop laughing, could I. Turns out they got the name dead on  .

Addendum:
They were brave enough to give us a phone number to call when something goes wrong with the POS:

"Yeah, I'm logged into the Piece of Shit."
"Which Piece of Shit?"
"Piece of Shit one."
"What about Piece of Shit two?"
"No trouble with Piece of Shit two. At least not at the moment...I'm sure there will be a problem at some point, because, you know, it's a piece of shit. Well done on the name, by the way. Good foresight"
"Will there be anything else?"
"Not at the moment, but give it time, something will pop up."
"Have a good day, sir."
"You know damn well I won't."
