Any mod worth their salt should have done something about this thread. I should be a mod for this thread, and this thread only. Make it so.

Hi,
I was wondering if anyone could help me with some questions regarding the FLAC format for bootlegs:
After being converted to WAV files, will the audio experience a loss of quality when copied to a CD-R (do they need to be compressed or altered further to be read by the CD)?
If so, I suppose the best route would be to download the shows in mp3 format or order the CD if I would be mainly interested in listening to them outside of my computer?
Finally, would there be any difference in sound quality between the downloadable mp3s and the orderable CDs?

Thanks very much.

The FLACS will sound just like the CDs. If you buy the flac, convert to wav, and burn to cd-r it will be the same as buying the physical CDs minus the cool packaging. The MP3s will sound a lot worse than the FLAC and physical CDs.

FLAC = CD

FLAC/CD > MP3

In terms of audio quality, both FLAC and WAV should be equal as both compress audio in lossless formats. This means that when the file is compressed, no data is discarded to help shrink the file size.

FLAC, is superior in terms of compression, as it compresses more efficiently than WAV.
