i cant believe people on this site (specifically TSIS torrent DL's) still dont know how to open their ports. i noticed on tuesday 11/14 that the Green Habit file had 3 or 4 leechers and no seeders, so i open up to share that brilliant comp and its big so i just let 'er run. 5 DAYS later and none of the original 4 leechers are still around (all were closed ports). ive uploaded over 5 gigs and Still NO OTHER SEEDERS. this morning, 11/18, 7 out of 8 leechers with closed ports. in this community, especially, i would expect people to be savvy enough users to know how to forward their ports and to not hit and run. in that spirit, and because this is truly a work of art that should be shared, i will keep it open till there are no more leeches, but will think twice about using this site in the future. Comments, pro or con, welcome. Feedback? suggestions? solutions? bring it on.

Maybe they don't want to bog down their browsing.

I'll be honest, on sites that don't require a ratio, I pretty much hit and run, I don't want to slow down my browsing. I have my ports forwarded, but I don't really see the need to stay on when I am active on sites that require a specific ratio.

Sorry, that's just the way it is for me.

How does it bog down your browsing?

If you are seeding, and there are say, 10 leechers, and you have your ports open, but nobody else does. They are going to suck your bandwidth dry. It will be like surfing the web on a 56k modem.

I usually just leave my computer on at night if I want to seed.

I think it's a stretch to say that the people who are DLing torrents from TSIS are "members of this community". It's an open server, and I'd say the vast majority of people who download there are not regular posters here, and most are probably completely unaware of teh messageboard.

I guess I've never had high uploads affect my download speeds. I think my uploads are capped at 40kB/sec, and I still have no problem getting 100-200kB/sec downstream. At the very least, you can set the client to cap your upload speed for you.

Yeah, the only time my browsing speed is affected is when I'm DOWNloading at 900 kbps. I've been finding that such speeds have been making my computer crash, I think I may have to do the unthinkable and cap my download speeds in my client!

Well, this certainly is not my field of expertise. I only do torrent stuff occasionally. However, I've certainly noticed major net slowdowns when I'm seeding a bunch of stuff (and not downloading anything).

It's possible I just dont have something configured correctly that's making my entire internet connection slow when I seed. Not sure what that would be exactly.

I would lose my internet connection when I was on a wireless connection when the speeds got high.

i have this same "issue" once the downloadspeed gets to be too fast my computer freezes, though i blame it on it being really old it is frustrating. My upload speed never gets passed 50 kb/s or so that's never an issue for me.

as was posted above, capping your upload speed will help with browsing. i have mine capped at about about 85% of my max upload speed, and it doesnt hurt it at all. i have cable internet, not sure if it differs by your connection.
