Hey everyone

I have £80 - 160 dollars to spend.

I would like to ask, i really want this camera to use for gigs.... so like what do i need to look for in a camera and what features does it need to be really good for taking pictures at gigs and just generally good for site seeing etc

I heard i need a quick shutter speed or something - if someone could clarify that would be great.

any certain models would be highly appreciated

Well, that kind of money is probably going to limit your options but if that's all you have to spend there isn't much you can do.


If your sole purpose is to get concert shots, then your best bet is to find a small camera that will be easy to sneak into a venue. For functionality, you're going to want one with some manual features that will allow you change settings based on lighting conditions. A simple point and shoot isn't going to cut it in a concert setting. Most digital cameras will give you the option of changing your shutter speed - in this case you will actually want a slower shutter speed since the longer the shutter is left open, the more light can get in and give you a well lit shot. The downside to a slower shutter speed is the chance of introducing blur. This is something you will have to practice and will probably waste 95 shots to get 5 good ones. You'll need a steady hand (so don't take pictures while you are pogo-ing to DTE ). A camera with image stabilization will help in this respect, but it can only do so much.
Another thing to consider is zoom. Your typical lower end point and shoot camera has a 2-5X zoom lens, which is fine if you are within say, 100 feet of the band. Anything further and you are going to have to settle for wide angle shots of the whole band because you aren't going to be getting any closeups. Getting a camera with a larger zoom will help you get better shots from crappier seats, but it will also add blur to your shots if you don't have a steady hand.

So anyways, those are some features to look for. I can't recommend anything specific in your price range because i don't really know if you will find much there. You may want to consider buying a camera second hand.
