Recently, my sound card stopped working, i've tried to shut down, detach it, connect it and start up, no luck, any idea what might be happening?

when you connected it again, was it in the same slot or a different one?

Do you mean a beep that comes from your speakers? Or from inside your computer? If it's your speakers, then there will be a setting in the IM application to change the sound options. If it's coming from inside your computer, which would be a little weird, it could be the onboard speaker on your motherboard. In that case, you want to check the Windows mixer and look for a PC Speaker volume (or similar) and adjust that.

Also one other thing, if you go into the Windows Control Panel and into the sound and audio devices icon, there is a tab called SOUNDS where you can adjust system sounds. Change the sound scheme to NO SOUNDS and see if that helps.

the sound comes from the onboard speaker in the motherboard i think. i had already tried that NO SOUND thing, but doesn't help.

not sure i have any more tricks up my sleeve. you might try finding out the manufacturer of your motherboard and seeing if they have any details on disabling the onboard speaker.
