The other night I ripped my first DVD and converted it to mp4 format for my ipod. I saved the rip to my desktop and it was about 5 gig. I erased the original rip and now my hard drive says i have like 85mb of free space, even though i deleted the large ripped file. I tried a disk cleanup and did a defrag for the hell of it. It said that certain files were unable to be defragged, one being the rip of the dvd i deleted. the location is: /RECYCLER/NPROTECT/00249353.VOB
but i can't find it....anyone know how i can get my c: to recognize this free space???

Do you have a backup program or something that allows you to recover deleted files? Also, check your temp files and see if the dvd program put a copy of the DVD there as well (it happens on my PC occasionally with DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink).

I don't have any backup program that i'm aware of. I'll have to check my temp files when i get home. I used dyd decrypter. Yesterday I did a disk cleanup to the drive and it said i had some ridiculous number of temp files (around 3 million) and I checked the box to clean it. after that my computer wouldn't recognize my ethernet card ?wtf?...i shut it down overnight and restarted today and i'm back online. these are all reasons why i just bought a new laptop
actually, check your recycle bin, if you left it in there, it still counts as space
yeah, i'm aware of this...when i went to delete the file i got the 'file to big to send to recycle bin' message and went ahead and deleted it. thanks peeps.
