I want to download some cd's but instead of listing the songs, itunes just shows Track 1, Track 2....etc.

The cd's are copies. any way to get song listings?

You have to edit the ID tags to show it. You can actually just edit the names directly in iTunes.
Or...right click the song. Then click GET INFO. Then click the info tab.

Well, depending on what program you use, you can re-rip the audio, and have the ripping program add the tags automatically by searching for the correct ID tag. But it depends on what program you are using to rip it. Either that, or you could add it manually.

unless the copies are exact duplicates of the original disc, no program (itunes or otherwise) is likely to populate the tracklisting.

Yes, that is what tagging is. It's basically a small bit of information that gets coded into the file. For audio, this is info like artist, song name, album name, track number, etc. The information can be added automatically if you have a ripping program that can grab the disc ID off the internet and make the tags for you, or you can add the tag information yourself.

Anyway, Oink users are usually pretty good about correctly ID tagging their releases. It's not a requirement, however.

There is a tag option for track number. Make sure you've entered in the track numbers correctly in the tags.

oh ive done that. when i check itunes library its in the correct order. and when i check my ipod on itunes, its in the correct order. its just not in the correct order on the ipod itself.

i swear i manually deleted the album from the ipod and then added it back again. got the same thing.

nah. i just listened to an album in its entirety and it played in the correct order.

if i remember correctly, this was the album i got off of oink that was tagged to hell. so i remember retagging it properly song by song on itunes.

i know im doing something totally boneheaded...

yeah. go to settings -> shuffle -> and check that it is off. if it's set to songs, it will shuffle the trakcs on whatever artist, album or playlist you choose.

yeah, my shuffle is set to 'Off'.

edit. i figured it out. when i said it was tagged to shit, i didnt realize the actual extent of it. and i thought i had fixed the tagging on this album last week.

i have my library to show me certain things. but genre, album artist and composer are not included. if not, the problem wouldve been obvious to me. so when i fixed the tagging, i checked the obvious, like track number.

half the songs had a genre. some said 'rock'. some said 'other'. some of the songs listed an album artist. some didnt. same for composer.

i got this album off of oink. whoever tagged it should be... something...
