Hi,
I recently downloaded DVDecryptor for use in trading and archiving. It takes me about 24 minutes to rip an ISO image, whether it be a data disc or a video. But when I go to burn a disc, I select 4x speed. When I commence the burn though, the speed seems to go between .5x and about 1.5x, never the 4x I select, and as a result it takes about 1.5 hours to burn and verify. My computer is about 3 years old, and I'm using a Sony 8x DVD DL burner. I know my system has been exposed to a fair amount of Pron in its day, and I figure that could be part of it........

So does anyone know why this is happening, or if those speeds are normal. If it is abnormal, does anyone have any suggestions or can anyone tell me how to give my system an enema and a makeover?

Any help at all would be appreciated, because I am in the middle of a 150 disc B&P, and at these rates I'll be doing it for months!

150 disc B&P?!

No, an hour and a half to burn a DVD is definitely not normal.

If you think your PC is gunked up will malware from all that pr0n, obviously the first thing to do (regardless of whether it will have any affect on your burning speed) is update your anti-virus software and do a complete system scan. If you don't have any AV software installed, I'd recommend AVG Anti-Virus & Anti-Spyware, and Ad-Aware SE Personal (they're all good, free programs).

After that, I'd look to see if there are any firmware updates available for your drive. Here is one place to look.

Try some blanks from a different spindle or a different brand. Try using ImgBurn to burn.

Kick up your burn speed and see what happens. I've been burning 8x Sonys with Decryptor set to burn at 8X but only getting 4x burn speeds.
