so i downloaded a season of the sopranos through bittorrent and they're all .avi files. When I open them, they don't have any sound. Did i just get a crappy download or what? is there any way to get the sound?

First make sure that you have the appropriate DivX codecs. You can Google for information on that front. These are necessary if you wish to play them on your Windows Media Player.
Otherwise, try downloading the VLC Media Player. It plays just about everything under the silicon sun. I use both it and the good ole Windows Media Player,

Yeah, VLC is really a simple solution for that. Works pretty great.

Delete whatever that Sonic program is and download Nero Burning Rom. Just burn the .avi's to a data disc.

When you burn to a DVD you're immediately changing that AVI and it's being converted to VOB (DVD Format) So when it gets ripped back to the computer again, it'll rip in DVD format, so you'll most likely have to convert it, providing you want to do that of course.
