Let's say I have a $200 limit, but I want to get a nice digital camera with good zoom and 6 or 7 megapixels. Possible? Recommendations?

i really love my pentax optio 60. 6 megapixels, 3x optical zoom, 4x digital zoom for a 12x overall zoom. tons of features and options. fully automatic and manual settings. it's a small camera, but it has a really big view screen, which is really nice.

it's this one http://www.amazon.com/Pentax-Optio-Digi ... B000AOBBDQ

it's looking like they don't make it anymore, though. reading the reviews on that site, though, make me think people don't know how to use cameras. i've never had a problem with out-of-focus pictures (aside from when i actually shake the camera), and it doesn't eat batteries, and the flash isn't too powerful unless it's right fucking on top of what you're shooting.

if i dropped mine down a well tonight, i'd probably go buy that last one off amazon tomorrow.

ETA: every other site i've seen it on has it less than $200. also, i know it didn't cost $200 when my mom bought it for me. eep!

Sounds great by your description. I'll read the reviews too though. So, how well would that zoom work at a concert?

The thing is I need a good camera if I'm going to Jordan this summer, but I want something I can use for concerts too. Nothing super fancy I guess, but something that will be nice to use in just about any situation.

i haven't used it at concerts, partly because i'm way too scared of losing my camera, but i have used the zoom to take shots of interesting landscape things while in the car or, and the pictures hold up shockingly well. i'd imagine that it would take pretty great pictures at concerts, too.

Oops, wrong forum I guess.

Nice. Thanks for the vote of confidence. I definitely have that camera in the running for choices of what to buy.

I prefer optical I think especially with vacate seconding that.

Quote:
What digital zoom does is enlarge a portion of the image, thus 'simulating' optical zoom. In other words, the camera crops a portion of the image and then enlarges it back to size. In so doing, you lose image quality. If you've been regularly using digital zoom and wondered why your pictures did not look that great, now you know.

yeah pretty much. digital zoom is retarded and shouldn't even be a feature. you can do the same thing with an image editing program on your computer. most cameras have some degree of optical zoom, and then they try to compensate with the digital zoom. it basically helps them sell cameras to stupid people.

can't go wrong with an olympus or canon. stick to one of those.

i went from a canon to a nikon and i fucking hate my nikon. it's not really user friendly. i miss my canon. amazing shots i got with that thing.
