I have a fast laptop, but all my DVDs skip when played on my machine. Is there a diagnostic tool that I can run to increase or decrease the read time of my DVD drive? My old crappy desktop plays DVDs just fine. It has got to be a setting or something. I have Microsoft Media Center and PowerDVD and DVDs skip on both. Any ideas?

What do you mean by skip? Like jump at certain times (this could be because of scratches on the disc?) or skip as in the sound goes slow and all crackly? (This could mean your drive, or the mode of your drive)
Also if it's random skips and it's not the discs, it could be the drive...
