There's a streaming video that I'd like to save. Anybody got anything?
This would be obviously the longer, more tedious way in which to do it, but if you want it bad enough...
Provided the particular stream in question doesn't have some sort of extra encryption that would prevent this, I love River Past's (they have a whole host of great a/v pgms) Screen Recorder Pro. It allows you to designate any spot on your screen, either a specific window that you point out yourself or even the entire desktop in one shot, and whatever video (& audio) is playing on your desktop, this will record it basically same way as if you were pointing a camcorder at your monitor and save it as a standard video file for playback on your machine. In the free version you can only record in .WMV format, but in "Pro" you can do multiple, but I honestly I still only choose .WMV because for one I'm content enough with that, plus I still don't know enough about all the different codec stuff to go another option.
But like I said yes this is the long way around, because obviously to get a complete recording, this thing records in real time so you'd have to let the stream play out once all the way thru to snag it (though also like I said, the streams on some particular sites always have special encryption that you need to battle against with additional programs and such, otherwise you'll playback a file with a black screen and just the audio).
But if you DO successfully get the recording, and having done so in .WMV, may I also recommend to then go and fine tune the final file (so the start and end is nice and clean, also so you don't have to worry about perfectly doing this whenyou're actually recording) the great free program called ASFTools v3.1. It's an editor for all .WMV and .ASF files. You can join multiples, cut up one single one, etc. I use it all the friggin time
