So, I've done some research including some in this forum, but I have yet to find a definitive answer. My PC will not turn on, and I think it has to do with the fact that I accidentally unplugged it while it was plugged into the surge protector. (I have an HP) The green light on the back blinks when it is plugged in, but it wont tun on.

I've tried alot of different things, but have yet to get it to work. Any suggestions. From what I've read it sounds like it may have shorted out the motherboard. If so, is that expensive or should I just get a new PC? Thanks in advance!

Before you panic about a blown motherboard, I'd explore getting a new power supply. I've fried a couple of those in my day. They run about $50, but make sure you get the right one, they're not all the same.

Try removing one of your PCI devices first. A blown PCI device almost convinced me that the entire computer was done for. Then turn on your computer. Repeat with the other devices. If it still doesn't work, check out a power supply...which are much cheaper than $50.

Thanks guys. Nothing seems to work though. My Mom's friend builds computers so I am going to see if he can tell me what the problem is. Hopefully its not too expensive as I dont have much to spend to repair an old computer.
