I've noticed Firefox freaks out when I try to open a pdf, but that's the only issue I have

I've been thinking about the blurred images. Are you using an internet "Speed-up" programme, like On Speed? These can reduce the quality of pictures.

Or perhaps try something simple like clearing your cache.

in case this hasn't been resolved...
it could also be caused by your DPI setting being too high - i had this issue on 2 new laptops recently. try going to display properties, settings, advanced, and looking at the DPI value - it should be 96 rather than 120.
