Products:
Verizon's new fiber optic system (Fios) will no-doubt be the new medium for telecommunications. The products themselves are similar to their competition. However, the delivery, speed and price is what separates it from the rest. Fios TV has all the on-demand, HD, and other features you'd want in various packages. Fios Internet gives you the option to subscribe to 5, 15, or 30MB/s. Verizon Wireless also tops ratings for coverage in 15 major cities according to CS (even I get 2 bars in a total shadow zone while my family gets nothing with t-mobile). Now that the Fios system has finally hit it big, many promotional packages offer the TV, internet, landline, AND wireless services for one very competitive price.

Customer support:
The customer support line has real people that speak clear english. I've had complicated questions answered in seconds. I have never been on hold longer than 30 seconds. The onsite technicians are paid by the hour, not by the job. This is an incentive for them to take their time and make sure they get it done right the first time, instead of rushing the work order and screwing things up. It's become evident that Verizon strives to understand customer wants/needs in order to serve them more efficiently. If you don't believe me, then believe the 93% customer satisfaction rate in 2006.

Career opportunities:
Verizon comes in at #11/75 on BusinessWeek's best companies for new grads. They recently launched a retail management training program where college grads work in as many as three locations over two years. In 2005, they had over 18,000 entry-level hires starting at around $40k.

I'm not affiliated with Verizon in any form. Frankly, I don't care if you go with Verizon or not, but I believe they're an outstanding company. Their services top every Consumer Reports list for each category with 2nd place still being a mile behind. Think of this company as the reliable Honda for the practical/economical person. So yeah, Verizon kicks ass. :)

Discuss.

How many customers do they service in total? I don't know the number, but it's a lot easier to provide that kind of support and service with a smaller customer base.

The new Fios TV menu is so sick. I wish I could post a screenshot so you guys can see what I'm talking about.
Oh, and after seeing comcast's HD programming on my friends' tvs (which are better than mine btw), the picture and sound quality of fiber optic HD destroys any other tech product I've seen in the last few years. I heard on the radio (not a commercial) that the Fios technology is the #4 "Best Product of 2007" according to Businessweek.
