Don't worry about the memory, you probably won't be storing any songs on RAM unless you don't mind losing them when you shut off the computer. Although it will help the computer run faster while you're playing them.
If each song is 4MB, that's 2^8 (256) songs per gigabyte, and let's say you're devoting 20GB to your operating system and other applications/data, then you'll be able to fit about 15,000 songs (accounting for the space at the end of your hard drive that you can't use, of course ).

Do you have any videos on it? CD images? Uncompressed audio? 15,000 is at an average of 4MB per song, but if it's 8MB per media file, just do the math and it's just 7,500. Sounds like you probably are running out of space.

I have the megamix of every opera ever written on my computer, so it's basically just one long song, but my computer tells me I'm running out of space. what's wrong with my computer?
