I was trying to find a megaupload link to a file for a cd and i accidentally went to one of those sketchy warez places that come up in google. That fucking "hey everyone i'm looking at gay porn" shit came up, along with the millions of windows etc. I am almost 99% sure this gave me a virus.
Sometimes I can hear the clicking noise go off repeatedly in the background (you know the noise?). Also, I will get these wav's playing of advertisements in the background occasionally. A little one about myspace one time. One talked about a radio show called flow. I've been monitoring the task manager when this happens and it's hard to locate the problem. I've run spybot, adaware, nod32 virus scan, etc. Does anyone know anything about this kind of problem?

Start >> Accessories >> System Tools >> System Restore.
restore it to the last point before this happened. note that you will lose everything you've installed past that day. it will (or should) keep "loose" data like mp3's and such.

System Restore works wonders on spyware's ass. Happened with me, but, I had to do a full system recovery (backup of HDD) and start from the beginning. Gotta love Compaq's.
