If I wanted to install kubuntu would I have to back-up all my media files or would they just miraculously reappear afterwards? I kind of know the answer but want it to be wrong because I'm a bit of a lazy sod. |

Well, it very much depends of the way you partitioned your hard drive and how you organize your files. If your /home is on a different partition than the / and that your files are all on /home, you can pretty surely only format the / partition and install kubuntu on it preserveing your /home. But I'm pretty sure there is a way of installing the kde environnment on ubuntu without doing anything else than downloading some package : here is a link, it's a bit old but the way of doing it has surely not changed a lot. http://linuxfud.wordpress.com/2006/08/1 ... o-kubuntu/ |

You just select it on the login screen. Then it usually asks if you want to do that everytime |

I'm going to update my mandriva 2009.1 to the new 2010 version using a boot.iso, I've already tried on my wife's PC and it has done very well (apart from the hours of upgrading via my shitty internet connection). As for your problem bop, it's beyond my capacities. |

It won't work for me. The screenshots I've seen look good. |

I've installed mandriva 2010. kde 4 is now totally usable eventhough you have to change some habits. Of course, you got to have recent hardware and a minimum of 2 Go of Ram but that's the norm for w7 too. |

Yes honestly, the upgrade from the 2009.1 went smoothly on both my comps. I'm working today on a way to get the ripping audio tool to work the way i want and that's quite a pain but apart from this, everything is ok. |

Really wish these were available for Linux. (Wine makes EAC work but not the way I have it set up.)

I have managed to get kaudiocreator working as I want. If you want it, I can give my "lame" settings. You can simply customize them. This software is the equivalent of EAC. |

Cheers, but I use REACT (an EAC extension) to create FLAC backups of my original CDs. It is configured to create WAV fingerprints (.st5 files) and other custom stuff. I'm pretty attached to the "AccurateRip" lookups and haven't found anything anywhere near as good for linux.
