I'd say once a week at most. I just leave it and let it go to sleep when I'm away from it.

Never unless I do something crazy like upgrade the kernel or decide to use Windows.

i always thought that rebooting "solves" and "cleans" up allot when it comes to windows...so in doing that every night i figured it was good...
also if you havent shut down for so long what power mode do you have it go into (assuming you have a pc not a mac of course)

no power mode on the PC, just the screen which turns off after 15 minutes of no activity. rebooting only cleans up if there is anything to clean up. i make sure there is none.

Doesn't anyone think of the energy they're wasting when leaving their systems on for long periods when away?

I usually turn mine off at night when I go to bed unless I have some torrents going.

i think i might shut it down more often now. Comcast (my ISP) got me firm by the balls 2 days ago. they called to ask me kindly to stop downloading as i was in the top 3 users concerning bandwidth usage in South Florida. I'm still not sure to be proud or ashamed of that, but i'm gonna lay low for a month or so....

Heh, good to hear that you aren't being a dick about it. Some people feel that they are entitled to unlimited bandwidth while paying the same rates as everyone else. Your neighbors will appreciate your decrease in downloading. :)

heh, i was more worried about my immigration status. when they called to say they needed to speak to me urgently about my internet usage i nearly pissed myself. you have no idea how relieved i was that it was just a complaint of bandwidth usage and nothing more.

By 'immigration status' you mean your fervent support for terrorism, right?
