has anyone tried this yet? if so, how were the results. or what have you heard?
Apple has made it quite clear that it does NOT work correctly. But strangely almost all the ipod competitors seem to be fine with Vista. If you require itunes, run XP in VMware and it will work as expected.

i'm running vista ultimate and the newest version of itunes has been just fine ... no conflicts, problems or anything.
BUT!
since installing vista, i get an awful crackling sound when playing mp3s, no matter what player i'm using (well, i've only tried itunes and wmp11, so that's the extent of it) - so does everybody else who has the same dell computer as me (inspiron 6400) - it seems to be related to the sigmatel high def audio chip that these machines use, so if your computer has it, maybe do some research first. it's been the only thing about vista that i've really not liked so far

The iTunes Library file cannot be saved. You do not have enough access privleges for this operation.

My old Creative software did not work on Vista. The Creative software that does work sucks, and I won't use it. You have to pay extra money to get the ability to rip to mp3s instead of wav or wma. Bullshit, and fuck you, too.
I didn't really care much because I didn't use that software to "organize" my music or anything, but I did use it to rip cds because with one click it would download the cd info from Gracenote and rip it both to my harddive and my player, in 192 VBR, and that was very convenient.
So I was able to isolate the cd ripper executable in teh old software and run it on my Vista machine. The only problem is that when it displays the song info, it's in Chinese. It comes up fine on the encode, but the display on my screen when I'm ripping is fucked up. Eh, I can live with it.
