I bought 2GB of memory for my desktop, but they don't fit in the slots. Can someone tell me what I did wrong? Here is a picture of the label on my new and my old memory.

Just taking a quick glance, the amount of pins (The gold bars at the bottom) are different

That old memory is DDR. I entered the other model name into google and it looks like it is DDR2. Motherboards support DDR or DDR2, there are a few that have slots for both, but you're probably out of luck. Sorry.

If you really wanted to upgrade your computer B, I think you're going to have to just bite it and get a new one. For whatever you wanted to upgrade you would need to get a new motherboard as well. With a new motherboard your processor may be incompatible and that would require an upgrade as well.

If you can post the specific components inside your computer I could try to figure something out, but I'm guessing this is going to be better off as a new computer.

Nevermind. If you are really looking to upgrade your computer you can do that, but if you just want more memory for your computer, here is some 2Gb DDR memory that should be compatible.

I think I'll have to go to a physical store. I can't afford another NewEgg mistake. By the time I paid for S&H, shipping back to them, and a $6 restocking fee, I'm out $15 for nothing.

You could go to crucial.com. You can run a small file, which will scan your system and tell you how much memory your motherboard can handle, which type it will handle, and any other pertinent information. You can then buy memory from that site, or use the information learned there to order from elsewhere.

I can vouch for Crucial.
I generally even buy it from them unless I have other computer stuff to get too, as they're cheap.

Now it's harder to find memory for under $50. :-(
