I am trying to get excel to add up work hours for individual employees, individual days and the weekly totals. However, excel doesn't understand that 9:00-5:00 equals 8 hours. it's set up as

Mon Tues Wed Thu Fri Sat Sun
John Doe 9:00-5:00
Jane Doe 9:00-5:00
Ton Doe 4:00-11:00

etc...i want the far right column to total the number of hours. At the bottom of the schedule, totals for the day and i can figure out where to enter an equation for the total weekly hours.

The easy solution is to enter "5:00 PM" instead of "5:00". "5:00" is AM by default.

so, "9:00 AM - 5:00 PM" within the same cell?

Oh, you want it in one cell? Then you'll have to do some string parsing, possibly with custom code. I'd just put each data point in a separate cell.

Why don't you just use a 24 hour clock instead of a 12?

If you put "7:00 PM", it represents it internally as "19:00".
