I've used Avast since abandoning AVG after its last major update and I've been pretty happy with it.
I long abandonned AVG too, too many functional problems (though less than Norton!)

Awesome another Avast user on the board. Ive been using it for years and love it. I will never use another anti-virus program as long as this is around.
