I haven't used this iPod in forever, and I'm trying to charge it. It's not fully charged and I want to disconnect. Can I do that without anything happening? Do I need to do something first?

What happens if you don't use the eject button?

I have some questions about my 1st Gen Ipod shuffle if any of you can help out...
I've had it since summer of 2005, and never really had any issues with it until recently...
I gave it a good charge time as I hadn't used it in a while, loaded up Itunes and it wasn't being recognized at all...
I found the "Ipod Reset Utility" ran it and now its recognized whenever I plug it in as "Justin's Ipod" Seeing as I'm Justin, this is a good thing...So I load it up with good tunes like Nick Drake, Rilo Kiley, Built to Spill and Elliott Smith (whose on it doesn't really factor in with the problem I'm having, just thought I'd throw that in as an FYI.)
I turn it on...and the indicator light doesn't come on...no orange light, green light, the battery indicator light doesn't light up when I push it, tho I know that there's a full charge in it, cause I left it in my USB port for 2 nights straight, and this is AFTER I used my standalone shuffle charger...
The music I put on there is there, cause I can see it when I click on Justin's Ipod in I tunes...take it out of the computer, and nothing happens at all....

i'm surprised it's still working since you've had it since 05.

you must be very unlucky. I've only had 2 and the first one was fucked up because i tried putting too much data on it at once in disk mode. I've had this one for well over a year, almost 2 and I use it every day.

If the battery dies, it's much cheaper to buy a replacement battery than to buy a whole new iPod. Costs under $10 online and the replacement batteries are often better than the originals. I've had my iPod for 3-4 years now.

i'll keep that in mind, thanks. generally mine just completely freak out though irrespective of the battery. it usually happens when i'm about to catch a long haul flight, either the ipod or the headphones or both will go. this has happened to me several times. god smiting me, i guess.
how do you change the battery, though? i thought apple tried hard to prevent this, can you just jimmy it open?

there's some guides online that show how to do it. i think you just pry it open and put the battery in.

They don't intentionally try to prevent it, they just like to design products with few external screws and components. Generally when you buy the replacement battery, it will come with a tool to pry the ipod open. Different models disassemble differently but they should all be fairly straightforward.
