I'm really hoping some kind soul could help me out. After reinstalling my XP OS and installing all supported drivers from the Gateway site, anytime I plug in any USB device, it continues to state that the device would perform better on a 2.0 USB device. Transferring files is extremely sluggish (my ipod locks up and external hard drives take minutes to read). Also, I've checked my device manager and there is a ? on the PCI Bus and USB Controller under "Other Devices". However, at the bottom, there seems to be valid USB Controller drivers with root hub drivers. I've searched all over Gateway's site for a USB 2.0 driver for my laptop.
I sent Gateway an email for help and they told me to do something I already did: "Install the Gateway AMD Chipset Driver Version: 5.10.1000.4". Nothing. Same issue.

It started doing that to me a while ago too, no idea why, I tried all the USB ports in case I had somehow switched them on the mobo, but no luck. Now USB is not working at all anymore (though that happened after I installed another VIA driver for my SCSI extension card)..when I plug something it says not recognised or something like that (but it detects something is plugged in)...i tried uninstalling and reinstalling all VIA/USB drivers but to no avail.
sorry, not very helpful I know.

No problem....understand. I also went into BIOS and switched the setting so that it wouldn't accept legacy USB. Nothing worked after that. No idea what to do besides never buy a Gateway again.
