i want a macbook like anything i've ever wanted but i literally can pay about 1/3 the price ($1,500 compared to $550 or so) and get a comparable Dell, spec-wise. gr!

I'm no tax guru, but I think you could write it off if you took the 'home office' route on your tax return. But here's the deal with deductions, it's not worth it to spend money on things you can write off unless your expenses are higher than your standard deduction.
Maybe you can ask a cpa about it, though, to verify.
Although I don't see any sort of advantage to using a Mac over a PC, I do own a Mac and because of my experience with it I think everyone should own one at least once in their lives. It's just the cost that is hard to commit to, considering a lot of computers don't last long.

True, but I will say that the mac I bought over 2 years ago is still running just as well as it did the day I took it out of the box.
