Plasma has much better black levels. Panasonic plasmas are the best bang for the buck.

My girlfriend has a newer Panasonic LCD and I have a Panasonic Plasma. The black levels in the LCD are not nearly as good as the plasma. Plus, the viewing angle is not as good. After fiddling with the picture settings I think my plasma looks better than pretty much anything I've seen under $2,000. So I would go with a plasma.
Also, if you have a Circuit City still open in your area then now is the time to pick up a really cheap plasma. The 42" 1080p model I have is only $900.

Most HD video cameras nowadays come with an HDMI port. So you can shoot, connect to your tv or receiver, and use the included remote to skip around whereever you want. Since they're harddrive-based, they can store several hours of 1080p video.

I own a 42 inch LG and couldn't be happier. I agree with the black level comments above. The picture quality is better than the LCD equivalent I saw in the store where I had the opportunity to do a real side by side comparison.

Can either of you two post the model number of your panasonics?
sorry i didn't check back earlier. here's what i have. i think i may stepup to blu ray in the next few weeks. it'll be a while before i add hd to the cable bill, though.
i think i may have bought the previous year's model, which is fine with me, but mine doesn't have the wireless link.

I picked up the Panasonic 42" 1080p at Best Buy for around $799 at Best Buy a few months back. Can't beat getting a 1080p plasma at this price. I think Plasma is definetely the way to go if you can afford it.
