I think what you have to do is first burn the track to a disc, and then import it into iTunes from the disc.
Set your import preferences to 'MP3.'

Or import it, and then convert it to MP3. Either way.

That's how I used to do it.

Google, or go to download.com, and search "m4a mp3 convert". Find free software that converts m4a to mp3. Use it.

of course i tried google before coming here. all i could find was stuff with so much crap attached to it, i didn't want to put it on my computer. the closest i got was mediacoder, but it only does some of the the files, not all. there seems to be some weird thing about my morning jacket that no matter what i do, it won't convert. i'll try this dbpoweramp next. thanks guys.

i really don't understand why everyone keeps telling him to download another program. if you set the itunes settings to import cds as mp3 files, you can right click on files already in your library and instead of "create aac version" or whatever they normally say it'll say "convert to mp3". it's a pretty easy fix

itunes might have a protection on them to stop you from doing that. to get around it you'll have to burn to disc and then rip the disc as an mp3.
