I have this weird problem where some videos/gifs/banner ads don't play/move unless I'm typing or moving the mouse.

WTF?

I'm on Vista using Firefox 3.0.10. Searching for answers online has been unsuccessful, as all the answers are from 2007 and don't seem to be of much use.

It should. I don't run Vista but I've never heard anyone complain about Opera on it, and I've turned a few friends onto the browser.
