Alright, so I got a new laptop with HDMI output. How do I know if I need a 1.3 or a 1.4 cable?

1.3 is the standard and will do just fine.

The 1.4 allows internect connection and it allows the TV to send it's audio to the receiver, so you wouldn't need a pair of RCA or a single optical toslink cable to the the TV audio to the receiver.

I bought an HDMI cable for a dollar on-line that did not specify whether it was 1.3 or 1.4. It worked.

Can someone please give me a quick run down on this HDMI business? Does it let your laptop plug into your TV so you can watch the TV screen instead of the laptop screen? Is that the idea? If so, that's amazing. Do you need a certain type of TV or laptop for this to work? Ta in advance...
