I am purchasing a new Mac now that my 2006 Macbook finally bit the dust via logic board death. I'm trying to decide between the two 13" Macbook Pro models. These are the differences between the two:
$1199: 2.3GHz dual-core Intel Core i5, 320GB Serial ATA HD $1499: 2.7GHz dual-core Intel Core i7, 500GB Serial ATA HD
I'm wondering if the extra $300 is worth it or not for the faster one. This will be my primary home laptop and aside from regular internet use, I will probably do some photo editing and design [via Illustrator and Photochop], though not anything super hi-res or professional. Probably won't do too much video editing. I don't play games. I will most likely get Reason or Ableton for music composition, but again that will be more of a hobby type of thing, not using it to play any gigs or do anything fancy except for making the dopest chillwave beats.
I might also consider the regular Macbook, but not sure it will be powerful enough to do what I want to do, at least in terms of something that will last for the next few years.

Any other suggestions on this? Wife's new job requires that she has a PC laptop. We're an all Mac household, and I've ever only owned Macs, so I have no idea where to start with PC laptops. Nothing too elaborate (maybe 800-1000$ range?). From what i've read, are Lenova Thinkpads any good? or how about any experiences with HP?

My Lenovo is really nice, and really kicks ass performance wise (though I'm sure that's more specs than brand, and I only use it for everyday stuff, no gaming except addictinggames type). I like it more than the HP I got a few years prior (though the HP was also good, and I'm biased as this one came with 7, much smoother than Vista was even when I first got it).

There's a common problem with HP laptops with the way the screen is connected. I've known two people with HP laptops whose screens would flicker whenever they moved it a little. Almost like the connection inside to the motherboard is loose.
