I would go with an Asus or a Toshiba. They don't advertise the way bigger brands do (like Dell) so you get them a little cheaper. Also, they're solid, durable machines. If you shop around online you can usually find them a lot cheaper than you would at a Best Buy.

I can't get too specific because I sound like I know a lot more than I actually do. Tryingmorning and uglyduckling are two people that know how to buy a laptop.

Yes, I've heard good things about Toshibas.
