You haven't had it even a year yet Should be under some sort of warranty if it really is a hardware issue. Worst they can tell you is "you're on your own"

Wait a minute, won't go into sleep mode, fan is running all the time, and battery life sucks. Have you gone into control panel and checked all your power management settings?
Would that make the fan run constantly though?

Power settings are fine: dim after 5 minutes, sleep after 10, and hibernate after 15. And I think I meant above that the computer won't enter hibernate mode, not sleep mode.

Indirectly maybe. If there's some setting that's making the computer work constantly the processor would stay hot and thus the fan would always be on.

Also, I rarely if ever turn my laptop off.
That might be your first problem... Most laptops aren't built to be on all the time like a desktop. Do you always have it on a table or other hard surface? Have you done a defrag or disk clean up recently?
The fan always being on makes me think the fan needs to be cleaned Does it overheat and shut down?
I missed this.
Yes, it's pretty much always on a hard surface. No, I haven't defragged recently. It's never overheated nor shut down.

My computer turns to shit if I don't do this at least once a week. Another thing I use is CCleaner, you can download it from cnet.com How's your disk space - are you about maxed out? Do a defrag - be sure literally everything is shut down, including screen saver, or it won't finish...

I feel like the fan not shutting off is secondary. The fan itself is probably working properly, it just won't shut off because something is taxing the processor and keeping it hot. The fact that it won't go into hibernate points to that.

I run CCleaner regularly, and just cleaned out the registry this morning. No issues found with regular scan, and it fixed twenty some-odd issues when I cleaned the registry. I've only used ~%12 of my disk space. No obvious process taxing the machine: largest memory hog is my browser at about 150K.
